Guest Room Accent Wall: In Progress

Just a short post, since I'm holding my sleeping baby and might as well write for the first time in weeks 😄

We just finished the accent wall in our guest/office. I despised this room...it's the only room that still has boogered up walls and the original yellowish-semigloss.

Now, a day of work, a box full of nails, and a few boxes of vinyl plank flooring...I'm seeing the light!!

It's pretty simple, and the vinyl planks are not very expensive. These are "woodland oak" from Home Depot.

Order of Events:

-Clean your wall
-Stick the planks on, push nice and hard
-Nail in the corners and in the center (the adhesive is NOT strong enough on it's own) (could possibly use a liquid nail, but I wanted the nails to show)
-Use an exacto knife CAREFULLY to make cuts (I cut some pieces in half to make the staggered look starting at one end)
-Voila!!

Before: Ugly Dingy

After: Cute Statement Wall!

Decor to come soon!!

Let There Be Paint!

Paint Paint Paint!
After all the cleaning, my hopes were finally lifted to see some paint on the walls. The rooms became fresh with old smells covered and painted over, and the colors reflected our personal style! I have to give a huge thanks to the show Fixer Upper for giving me inspiration for all the color choices. It was so great to see the color on the walls during the shows, and they are easily found on their Pinterest boards!

We chose Sherwin Williams-Mindful Grey for our bedroom and main living spaces. I wanted to do mostly the same color through the house since it would give a nice flow and not break up the spaces. I found some great blogs on Pinterest that show and describe the color on the walls.

I'm so glad I went with SW-Mindful Grey and not SW-Repose Grey (which was the other color I was considering for the main space). It is a perfect color, and changes with the light of the day, so it looks slightly different in every room! *My sister working on the closet!

I thought about making this a whole different post but I'm not the best at blogging so I thought it's still appropriate under "Paint in Progress" day. We tore the "thermafoil plastic" off the kitchen cabs (it was cracking off as it is), it peeled right off wit ease!! I saw some tips to heat the plastic with a hairdryer if it needs a little coercing to peel off.

And the color started to go on!! We used a Valspar match to SW-Thuderous. I wanted it in a satin and the SW paint did not have one in stock. It's a greenish grey.

It went on very nice since the cabs had some grip to it after having the outside plastic removed!
We started to move into the main living room/dining with SW-Mindful Grey (Flat btw, gives it that antique look).
Living room with a little sneak peek of the Den with SW-Porpoise. (I am obsessed with this color)
TaDa!!! I looooove the way this color came out!!

 Too much excitement..
My dingy kitchen transforming into a beautiful country kitchen!

Yuckkkkkk behind the stove!! A whole lot of kitchen sludge (this was apparently in our plumbing line too messing up our septic system).

We even got Bruche in there...
Oh what paint and nice front loaders can do for a laundry room! (Mindful Grey)

Wowza it's like a room isn't it!

Getting the babes out of the fumes.

Almost a kitchen!! And if you notice my cute little antique stove from the 50's!! My husband scratched his head and felt like we were trading a really crappy old stove for another old stove, but this one had character and was FREE.

I know this post was a little modge podged but I'm still working on moving in and want some somewhat completed rooms for my "after" photos. Some cool little projects to come in between!
Thanks for reading into our little project!!

Move in Day!!

We finally leaped though all the hoops and divulged every piece of personal information, short of giving away our first child to the bank. But finally, we are HOME OWNERS! IT was amazing to walk into our house without a realtor, and without other people's belongings everywhere.

So we thought....Oh my goodness was the house filthy!! I thought a little cleanup was going to be in order of course, but we were cleaning for a good half of a day before even starting any projects or painting!
Front Entry, we still aren't sure if its supposed to be a yellowish tinge or if that's from the hint of cigarette smoke tainted through the whole house...yummy!!

Grime everywhere, a septic issue, and everything bleached (right down to the switch plate covers), we were ready to paint. I'm so thankful to all the family members who helped on this not so glamorous day of the reno project. But it was the jump start of what needed to be done to get on with the more exciting projects. I can't wait to share some of our painting extravaganzas that have taken place over the past week. It is amazing "Paint changes everything!"
